Orwell’s Children

American Thinker | Bruce Walker | Nov. 16, 2008

It has been sixty years since George Orwell wrote his chilling dystopian classic, 1984, and it has been thirty years since we saw the creepiest example of educated and free people willingly walking into a living dystopia. November 18, 1978, three decades ago, 918 people drank Kool-Aid laced with cyanide. Jim Jones, the communist leader of Jonestown, Guyana, had become “Big Brother.” Soviet and Communist Chinese propaganda films and condemnations of capitalist and imperialist America blared continually to the subjects of this island of Leftist Hell. Boy, Was I Wrong, America Embraces Marxism

American Thinker | Steven M. Warshawsky | Nov. 5, 2008

Who would have believed that the philosophy of Karl Marx – “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” – would triumph so spectacularly in the United States of America?

Frankly, I cannot understand how a man like Obama became president. It contradicts everything I know, or thought I knew, about American history, culture, and politics. Whatever happened to individual liberty, limited government, self-reliance, and the American Dream? Whatever happened to patriotism? Has the Left in this country finally completed its “long march” through America’s institutions, now capturing the White House? Has the Left at last succeeded in destroying the birthright of freedom and prosperity that the Founding Fathers bequeathed to us more than two hundred years ago? I fear it has. [Read more…]

Obama’s Adam Smith Problem

American Thinker | Ed Kaitz | Nov. 1, 2008

Barack Obama has advanced the astonishing thesis that by “spreading the wealth around” he’ll somehow create a more benevolent society. But we’ve seen above that since benevolence can never be extorted by force the only thing Obama will succeed in doing is spreading suspicion, resentment, and poverty – the condition of any society whose lawmakers “push too far.” A vote for John McCain on Tuesday can help keep America in the good hands of the humble yet brilliant Scottish economist who, in his race to develop a solution to the problem of scarcity, never lost sight of man’s most important virtue: freedom. A Coming American Third World Despotism?

Human Events | Erick Erickson | Oct. 30, 2008

In East Asia, South America, and Africa third world despots run kleptocracies and routinely use government to harass, bully, and intimidate their opponents. It is a standard Marxist practice of Robert Mugabe, Hugo Chavez, Karimov of Uzbekistan and their ilk. Should the American public elect Barack Obama President, we are already getting a glimpse of what his administration would be like. [Read more…]

A Sobering Look Ahead to Barack Obama’s America

Pajamas Media | Bernard Chapin | Oct. 30, 2008

By 2012 or 2016, the alteration of America’s fabric will be severe and profound as we will have socialism in our time. Even though political leftists abhor the word, socialism is entirely in keeping with their cherished preferences and initiatives. They salivate over the notion of omnipotent government and wish to regulate the citizenry in innumerable ways. This is evident in their stance on an individual’s negotiations with his or her employer, their ability to say “no” to union membership, and the absurd belief that carbon dioxide — a life-sustaining chemical compound we exhale — is a “dangerous pollutant” in need of environmental removal.

Aside from a woman’s right to murder her offspring, there is nothing in this land that Senator Obama and his ilk do not wish to command and control. Indeed, not until Hillary Clinton was dispatched over the summer did the presidential frontrunner ever once embrace a centrist position. Obama has never seen a tax cut he liked or a federal program he wanted to eliminate. He is what he is: a leftist’s leftist. [Read more…]

Obama’s Positions are Evil

FreeRepublic.com | Fr. Philip Neri Powell, Ph.D. | Oct. 22, 2008

Why do I oppose Obama? Simple. His political positions are evil. This man believes that it is morally acceptable to kill children. He believes that it is morally permissible to attempt to kill a child in the womb, fail, and then leave the child to die once delivered alive. This man believes that all Americans should participate in his evil by being forced to pay for the genocide of abortion with federal tax dollars. That the overwhelming majority of children murdered in the womb are black seems not to concern him at all. He has promised to eliminate all democratically enacted laws against the murder of children by signed the so-called “Freedom of Choice Act” if elected. This will enshrine the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision, Roe v. Wade into federal law. [Read more…]

Why the Left Wants to Change America

Townhall.com | Dennis Prager | Oct. 28, 2008

From Karl Marx to today’s Democratic Party, the left everywhere has manufactured villains to slay — starting with the bourgeoisie and land owners to today’s “special interests” (though not, of course, left-wing special interests, such as labor unions, teachers unions and the trial bar), “the rich,” drug companies, oil companies, neocons, evangelical Christians and, of course, the myriad racists, sexists, Islamophobes, homophobes and xenophobes.

That’s why the left is so passionate about “change.” In fact, if I believed America had become what the left believe it has become, I would be, too. But what they believe about America is not true; America remains the greatest country in the world. It needs to be fixed where broken, but not changed. Those who want to change it will make it worse. Perhaps much worse. [Read more…]

Obama Affinity to Marxists Dates Back to College Days

FoxNews.com | Bill Sammon | Oct. 28, 2008

Obama’s affinity for Marxists began when he attended Occidental College in Los Angeles.

“To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully,” the Democratic presidential candidate wrote in his memoir, “Dreams From My Father.” “The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists.”

Obama’s interest in leftist politics continued after he transferred to Columbia University in New York. He lived on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, venturing to the East Village for what he called “the socialist conferences I sometimes attended at Cooper Union.” [Read more…]

Like Father, Like Son – Obama’s Father: Government 100% Taxation of Income OK

Investor’s Business Daily | Aug. 14, 2008

As a Nairobi bureaucrat, Barack Hussein Obama Sr. advised the pro-Western Kenyan government there to “redistribute” income through higher taxes. He also demonized corporations and called for massive government “investment” in social programs.

Writing in a 1965 scholarly paper, Obama’s late father slammed the administration of then-President Jomo Kenyatta for moving the Third World country away from socialism toward capitalism. He chafed at the idea of relying on private investors — who earn “dividends” on their venture capital — to develop the country’s fledgling economy. [Read more…]
