108 thoughts on “Denmark cartoon row…”

  1. From VictorDavisHanson.com:

“Ever since that seminal death sentence handed down to Salman Rushdie by the Iranian theocracy, the Western world has incrementally and insidiously accepted these laws of asymmetry. Perhaps due to what might legitimately be called the lunacy principle (“these people are capable of doing anything at anytime”), the Muslim Middle East can insist on one standard of behavior for itself and quite another for others. It asks nothing of its own people and everything of everyone else’s, while expecting no serious repercussions in the age of political correctness, in which affluent and leisured Westerners are frantic to avoid any disruption in their rather sheltered lives.”

  2. “Asymmetry: is a good word. The Danish cartoon was insensitive and needlessly provocative at a time when relation between the Western and Islamic worlds are already inflamed.

However, the reaction of the Islamic world was alarming and excessive. We have seen that there are thousands of Islamic leaders eager to use the incident to whip religious hatred against Christians. The slogans on the signs carried by the Islamic protestors (“Europe is a cancer, islam is the answer”) seem to convey the message that a religious war against the West is already well underway. NPR carried a story this morning about a Palestinian children’s TV show produced by Hamas in which the toddlers were taught to recite slogans about how the non-Islamic world is their enemy and thier duty is to spread Islam.

In the meantime Christian churches in Iraq, Egypt and Pakistan have been the frequent object of murderous attack, while in other Islamic countries, like Saudi Arabia or Turkey, Christians are denied the right to practice their faith.

Bottom line: Asymmetry: Muslims demand respect from the West but refuses to extend it back in return. I think it’s time that Western nations more loudly protest Islamic persecutions of Christians and immediately demand reciprocity of respect for each others religions. Not doing so, and remaining silent, is a form of apeasement and an invitation to aggressive elements within Islam to become even more hostile.

As an aside I just finished Victor Davis Hanson’s book on the Peloponesian wars, “A War like No Other”, and thought it was brilliant and full of insights. He takes the long view of how decisions made early in the conflict had a far reaching influence on the end result decades later.

  3. Dean, when you step outside of the lure of Progressive moralisms, you make a whole lot of sense. This is a good post. I agree that the cartoons were needlessly provocative, and I also agree that more courage is needed by the West to confront Islamic nations on their persecution of Christians. These are really two different issues, a point you implicitly make.

  4. In the 8th century AD the Byzantine Empire was convulsed by the Iconoclast controversy after Emperor Leo III declared all religious images to be sinful and ordered their destruction. Following his edict, monks and worshippers battled the soldiers sent by Leo on the churches and monastery steps, and although many precious icons were hidden and saved many were also lost. Leo’s family hailed from Eastern Anatolia on the frontier with Persia and Arabia was most likely influenced Islamic beliefs of the nearby Muslims.

The Islamic prohibition against any visual or graphic depiction of Mohammed therefore extends back nearly 1,400 years and was so well known that it even influenced the views of nearby Christians on the eastern fringe of the Byzantine world. Today, Muslims still consider any representation of the prophet, (even as a character in a book of fiction such as the one written by Salman Rushdie), to be an act of supreme blasphemy worthy of punishment by death.

Whether Westerners agree with Islamic views that drawing a cartoon of Mohammed is blasphemy or not is really beside the point. We may not believe that bulls should charge when they see red, yet that is what they are conditioned to do, and so it is ridiculous to act surprised or outraged when they do so.

This is not to defend the riots, violence and threats by the Muslim protestors, but only to point out how extremely ignorant and stupid it was to publish this cartoon. There are many leaders and instigators in the Islamic world who wish us ill. They spend all their time exploiting the fears and insecurities of the largely poor and uneducated Muslim masses seeking to whip up religious hatred against Christians and Jews. The publishers of this cartoon gave them more ammunition to work with.

  5. The main issue is that the cartoons are in fact offensive, the artists should have researched the issue more carefully. Also it was an unwise desicion to publish this material when the muslims are struggling to show the ignorant that terrorists and muslims are not the same, terrorists twist the teachings of islam to their own agenda. The prophet is very respected and loved by the muslims and the material in those cartoons is insulting.

  6. Dean writes: “Whether Westerners agree with Islamic views that drawing a cartoon of Mohammed is blasphemy or not is really beside the point. We may not believe that bulls should charge when they see red, yet that is what they are conditioned to do, and so it is ridiculous to act surprised or outraged when they do so.”

You know, some months ago a group of American Islamic scholars came out with a fatwa that said that killing innocent people was wrong. This was widely reported as a good thing. But I could only help feeling that there was something profoundly wrong with a religion that had to develop a special religious finding in order (unsuccessfully, it seems) to persuade it’s followers not to kill innocent people.

Do the recent riots and other acts of violence around the world finally give people in the West permission to consider Islam a violent religion?

I get SO tired of hearing Muslim scholars paraded through talk shows, holding forth about how great Islam is, and how the attack-du-jour, the riot-du-jour, the assassination-du-jour, the kidnapping-du-jour, etc., etc., do not represent “true” Islam. No, we’re supposed to believe that these things are isolated incidents that that do not reflect the “real” Islam.

So the deal I’d make is this: we won’t publish cartoons of Mohammed so as not to enrage his millions of monumentally stupid and sociopathic followers, in exchange for which we will never again have to listen to the latest scholar or Imam talk about how great and peaceful Islam is.

  7. #8 I agree with most of your assessment Jim. But to add I’m rather tired of Westerners concerned about what Islamists thinks about them.

Personally it should be the reverse. They should be more concerned in what we think about them.

  8. Dean and Rori quake in fear of their Muslim thought and speech masters

First, they put a fatwa on Salmon Rushdie who still lives in fear.

Then, they attacked the Egytian writer Mahfouz for blasphemy in his novels, he survivied the knife attack

Then they killed the Japanese translator of Satanic Verses.

Then they killed Pym Fortyn for truthfully pointing out that Muslim countries impose a death penalty on gays.

Then Theo Van Gogh who was killed for truthfully pointing out that the Koran teaches that women are
inferior to men, that Muslim men have a right to beat their wives and that polygamy is God ordained.

Now Muslims in London march with signs stating “behead those who insult Islam” We know those signs are
    “dead” serious, don’t we.

The world lives in fear of Islam. The fear is justifiable.

That was the whole point of the cartoons. Illustratos in Denmark had been properly taught obedience to Islam, just as intended
    by the Muslim world.

We quake in fear of what our Muslim thought masters will do next.

The LEFT, Dean included, has cravenly collapsed in the face of obdurate Islamic opposition to free speech.
All of those decades in which the LEFT claimed to support various rights causes, gone in a craven second.
The LEFT loves nothing more than dictators and totalitarians and they are willing to throw overboard gays and women.

(By the way, there is a big difference between opposing the legitimization of gay marriage and stoning gays to death and everybody posting on this board knows it. Most American support decriminalization of homosexual conduct between adults but oppose gay marriage)

    BUY DANISH
What does it take to teach you that there is no free thought in Islam? More deaths? More mobs? More attacks on embasies?

  9. Note 11, Jerry, they are teaching us a lesson, Sharia law controls the world

Jerry, the world is being taught a lesson by its masters. Islam is a totalitarian religious and political system. Blasphemy against religion is punishable by death, now, today, in real countries: Pakistan, Jordan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and others. This is an open and public policy. Apostasy, leaving Islam, is punishable by death. This is the very definition of a totalitarian thought system. THERE IS NO FREE THOUGHT IN ISLAM. Our masters are teaching us that Sharia law WILL control life in the West OR they will murder us like they murdered Pym Fortyn and Theo Van Gogh.

Violence by Muslims is “understood” and “excused.” Misogyny by Muslims is “understood” and tolerated.
The capitulation of the Left is almost total.

CNN actually has a line on its website that states that it refuses to publish the cartoons because “CNN respects Islam.” The outrageousness of that statement is mind-boggling. CNN has never hestitated to mock or disrespect other religions. The NYT trumpeted Serrano’s P—-Christ as an act of artistic freedom.

Jerry, it is just a matter of learning who our true Masters are.

  10. Giving a Pass to Mob Violence

Notice how both Dean and Rori have no word of condemnation of the actions of a violent mob that attacked and burned down a Danish embassy. This is a clear violation of international law as host countries have a duty to protect the embassies of other countries. Syria allowed and encouraged the attack. Innocent foreign service personnel in Syria had to run for their lives.

NEVER AN A WORD OF CONDEMNATION FOR MUSLIM VIOLENCE. From Yassar Arafat who the Left lionized for 40 years of terror to the Ayatollah Khomeini with his literary fatwas to the 9/11 murderers ALWAYS A PASS FOR MUSLIM VIOLENCE.

  11. From Time magazine:
“Muslim leaders say the cartoons are not just offensive. They’re blasphemy–the mother of all offenses. That’s because Islam forbids any visual depiction of the Prophet, even benign ones. Should non-Muslims respect this taboo? I see no reason why. You can respect a religion without honoring its taboos. I eat pork, and I’m not an anti-Semite. As a Catholic, I don’t expect atheists to genuflect before an altar. If violating a taboo is necessary to illustrate a political point, then the call is an easy one. Freedom means learning to deal with being offended.”

I was once asked why blasphemy should be tolerated in law. Well, it seems that what is deemed blasphemous varies so wildly that it would be impossible to legislate in any consistent way.

Which is why democracy is anathema to many Muslims: it “tolerates” the intolerable. What I’m interested in is how Christianity evolved to where it generally accepts this concession as a good worth embracing (with the possible exception of Christian Reconstructionists).

  12. Looking in from the outside, it seems that the Arab world is always lying in wait for a reason to destroy, burn and show the world what their religion is really all about. You see children burning flags. There is your next generation of hate in the making.
Burning a flag is an act of hate. Burning the embassy is a direct attack to the country that it represents. This is beyond extreme and should NEVER be condoned. I understand the reaction, but I will never understand and accept the action they have taken. They need to calm down and take a crash course in “Let’s Discuss Before We Burn and Have A Riot 101”.
The Muslims often think they are being discriminated against. Perhaps they should bring down their arm that holds the machete up all the time, ready to strike with even a slight provocation. I wouldn’t talk to them. It’s not discrimination…but I don’t want any link with anyone that could potentially harm me if I express my belief as a non-Muslim. I love my freedom and I don’t want anything to do with people that would threaten that freedom.
The Muslims are entitled to their religious belief, but they do not control the world and its freedom. This display of violence over a cartoon, regardless of how offensive they think it might be, represented the entire Muslim population all over the world. Calm the heck down.
They have left a bad taste in my mouth and I know I am not the only one.

  13. A short list of what offends Muslims:

    Two dimensional depictions of Mohammed
Two dimensional depictions of the human figure in art
Depictions of animal life in art
Statuary including all public statutory in Europe depicting humans and animals (religious
statutes in public squares in Italy have been attacked and vandalized)
Any play, opera or dance which makes reference to something Muslims dislike
Religious freizes in Christian churches that include a depiction of Mohammed
    Pork
    Pork products
    Pictures of pork
Statutues of boars found outside English Pubs
Names of English Pubs including references to Boars (pigs)
Pictures of pigs in children’s book
Figurines of Piglet from Winnie the Pooh on a government worker’s desk
Mixing pork products with other products in grocery stores so that Muslims have to pass by them as they shop
Centuries old French tradition of making a meat soup available to the poor which includes pork
    Drinking
Pictures of people drinking on billboards
Pictures of women on billboards that do not comply with the Muslim dress code
Athletic outfits for men that show the body between the shoulders and the knees (Kareem Abdul Jabar single handed changed the
outfits worn by professional American basketball player to comply with Islamic law, bet you didn’t know that)
    Vineyards
    Breweries
    Champagne, Cognac, Wine, Beer, Glug
Holidays which are feature certain drinks or alcohol related customs: Octoberfest, Norweigan Christmas Glog,
    etc.
    Dogs, including seeing eye dogs
Traveling in a cab after a blind man with a seeing eye dog sat in the back seat (not making this up)
    Dog shows
    Police dogs
Areas in public parks set aside for dog owners
Ballet because it reveals the human form
All modern dance because it reveals the human form
All women’s sports because it reveals the female form
“Free mixing” between men and women who are not very closely related to each other
The mixed use of public swimming pools, Muslims have demanded separate pools or separate times
    for Muslim women
The examination of female patients by male doctors, Muslims have protested the common practice in
American emergency rooms and hospitals have actually complied
The patting down of female Muslim criminal defendants by male policemen.
Muslims have protested the “mixing of the sexes” in college classrooms in France, in the Sorbonne
The public display of cruxifix in Christian countries (Italy)
The wearing of a Star of David or a Cruxifix by a public school teacher
The charging of interest on a loan
The use of insurance, forbidden as a form of gambling
Gambling of all kinds, America’s race tracks would be shut down (this is not my favorite hobby, but some people like it)
Eating during the day during Ramadam, very offensive to hungry Muslims, prohibited to non-Muslims in Muslim countries
Restrictions against marrying first cousins (advocated by Mohammed)
    Restrictions against polygamy
Restrictions against wife-beating, a Koranic right
Allowing women’s testimony to have the same weight as men’s testimony
Equal shares of inheritance for male and female children
Muslim translators in the State Department have requested their own separate bathrooms, infidels are najis (dirty)
A absence of place to wash feet during the day to allow Muslim prayer
The absence of exclusively Muslim prayer rooms.

In every case, the Muslim will explain that he/she is MORTALLY OFFENDED to the point of fainting and that it is so very unfair that this utter mortification is not respected and caterered to.

So please keep this short list with you at all times. Tolerance requires that we peacefully accept the limits of Sharia law in order to avoid offending our intellectual and spiritual mastes.

  14. I’d say amen in agreement to you statements Cassandra, but that might be offensive to Sharia.

    To add to your comments:

Hatred of Israel also contributes to the left’s subservient attitude toward Islam.

Another problem is the west’s acceptance of postmodern relativism to the point that people have become ashamed of their culture. Some even to the point of hating it.

  15. Time to Pay Your Jizya, Jerry

Now that Hamas has taken over the Palestinian territories there is talk of imposing the religious tax (jizya)on the few Christians left there.

Make sure that you don’t dress more luxuriously than your Muslim neighbor, don’t build a bigger house than your Muslim neighbor and never ask a Muslim to take direction from a non-Muslim.

    good luck, jerry

At least the Danes, who were once Vikings for Pete’s sake, are coming alive.

  16. Beware of Linguistic Traps:Hate Speech is not a Constitutional Concept

The U.S. Constitution imposes only a few limits on free speech.

One of those limits is refers to “threats of immiment violence against a person.” Therefore, if a police officer observes someone making a creditable threat against another person, he can arrest for disturbing the peace. Basically, he can intervene before a physical fight starts. He doesn’t have to wait until the threat is carried out. This exception is very closely limited. The threat must be creditable, it must be immediate and imminent and there must be a close physical proximity between the person making the threat and the potential victim. Given this rule, the Danish cartoons were fully constitutionally protected speech under U.S. law.

Government may also regulate the time, place and manner of public speech, but, only if that regulation does not discriminate on the basis of content. So a city can make rules about public protests but those rules may not differ by content of the protest.

American Leftists (always working to eliminate free thought) have developed the concept of “hate speech.” They have declared without constitutional support or judicial approval, that a category of speech that they call “hate speech” should be controlled. Of course, this means that someone criticizing affirmative action can be classified as engaging in “hate speech” against minorities. It is a very good tool for thought control. Someone arguing that not all cultures are equal can be categorized as engaging in hate speech against Third World peoples. Again, “hate speech: is not a constitutional category. Hate speech codes have been struck down by the Court when challenged by University students. For more detailed information go to the FIRE website.

  17. Note 17 Leftists have always hated our culture

The culture of the United States based on the philosophy of Locke and many others, embodied in the U.S. constitution has always been hated by Leftists.

Leftists claim that equality is the highest moral value and they will sacrifice everything to achieve that. Of course, inequality is natural and equality is very unnatural. In order to achieve equality of everything, Leftist must control everything. Control buying and selling and setting prices. Control real estate development. Control food choices of individuals. Control the school choices of individuals. Control the upbringing of children (regardless of parent’s wishes) Control the terms of employment. Control thought, control speech. Control political activity under McCain Feingold, all in the name of equality.

The Left has openly supported Lenin, Stalin, Hitler (temporarily), the Chinese Communists and many others.
They are attracted to Islam because of its totalitarian and anti-freedom nature.

  18. Missourian: Here is my bible passage of the day for you. Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

This teaching of Christ tells us that cautious, inoffensive behavior and wisdom are not contradictory reactions, but go hand in hand. Have you ever heard the phrase “choose your battles wisely”? We should not mistake rash and reckless behavior for courage, or prudence and good judgement for cowardice.

  19. Danish behavior is only “rash” if Muslim violence is NORMAL and PREDICTABLE

Dean, we have conceded too much already to these thugs. The time eventually arrives when one needs to stand and be counted. The behavior of the Danes is only considered “rash” IF you accept the NORMALITY and PREDICTABILITY of Muslim violence and intolerance.

Would you consider it “rash” of say Penn and Teller, the comedy team, to do a program criticizing Mother Theresa? No, of course not, that would not be rash. Why, because there would not be threatening mobs of Roman Catholic Nuns surrounding the TV station which broadcast the program. We must learn, apparently, that is rash to offend our violent Muslim masters.

Calling the Danish cartoons rash is double betrayal. They were published because people in Denmark had already been terrorized into silence by the thugs. To refrain from publishing would be to allow further self-censorship.

No, we owe Denmark a debt of gratitude for bringing out in full force the true nature of Islam, a totalitarian thought system that brought death and servitude to all of its neighbors: Hindus, Sikh, Zororastrians, Coptic Christians, Nestorian Christians, Assyrian Christian, Armenian Christians, Thai Buddhists, Phillipino Christians, Balinese tourists, the list goes on and one.

People who are pushing “multi-culturalism” have to answer how a thought system which does not allow free speech is to be integrated into a system which does. You cannot sqaure the circle and this episode has revealed the truth the West needs to see. This is the same phenomenon which occurred with the deaths of Pym Fortyn and Theo Van Gogh, the Left did nothing and betrayed free speech.

  20. Missourian writes: “Notice how both Dean and Rori have no word of condemnation of the actions of a violent mob that attacked and burned down a Danish embassy.”

Actually I said in Number 6: “There are many leaders and instigators in the Islamic world who wish us ill. They spend all their time exploiting the fears and insecurities of the largely poor and uneducated Muslim masses seeking to whip up religious hatred against Christians and Jews.”

Was that not strong enough? Just asking.

  21. Note 20: For the record, Missourian, I oppose hate speech laws. They’re too broad, too restrictive and, to put it simply, I think people should be able to state their views even if they make others feel uncomfortable.

Secondly, the Democrats are dropping the ball on the terrorist surveillance program. My question is: can any crimes discovered that are NON-TERRORIST related when engaging in this program be used in a court of law? For example, we discover that someone is in fact NOT an Al-Qaeda operative but was under suspicion for being one, but we find that he was engaging in illegal drug sales during our wiretapping, can he be prosecuted for THAT crime? Otherwise, I think we need to step back and question whether we wish for a 9/11 repeat. It’s clear that, given the chance, they’d take out a million or more.

  22. Missourian, I fear your anti-“leftist” diatribe (Note 21) says much more about you than it does about “leftists.”

  23. NOte 24, Condemnation of Violence,Islam Teaches Death to Blasphemers

I stand corrected, however, Dean, you are making an important related error. You wish to attribute the violent conduct to just a few Muslims. Yes, it is true that only a “few” Muslims were violent (with the direct approval of the Syrian government.) It only took a few to burn the Danish embassy, an aggressive act of war in international law.

What you refuse to admit and what you constantly want to tip-toe around, is that Islam has always taught death to blasphemers and apostates. Any form of comment regarding any Islamic practice (and there any many, many Islamic practices besides the rule against pictures of Mohammed) is considered blasphemy and therefore subject to the death penalty.

Most MUSLIMS would support the death penalty for blasphemers, although most Muslims did not burn the Danish embassy. What you never admit is that Islam is incompatible with free speech, this is something believed and supported by all Muslims even if they didn’t take up a torch today.

  24. Note 26, Jim Holman

Do you have a factual error to point out? Remember Jim I was a former committed feminist. I spent DECADES inside the American Left and I know the crowd very, very well.

Today’s feminism is dedicated to destruction of the nuclear family, destruction of the Judaeo-Christian moral and legal system, and the imposition of a society heavily controlled by them, as the enlightened. They have advocated unconstitutional hate speech laws that have been struck down by American court over and over again. Again, see the FIRE website for records of the numerous times U.S.Court has struck down University speech codes, always promulgated by the Left to stifle criticism of favorite Leftist political positions.

Remember, the American Left supported Lenin, Stalin, Krushchev and Hitler for a short while. They tried to convince us that Communism was a better system and that Stalin was a benign ruler. They visited the Soviet Union and came back with lies from their Communist masters.

  25. Dean, Who has been VIOLENT? Who has been rash?

Dean, you ask the Danes to restrain themselves but who have been violent?
Salman Rushdie wrote a book, he was threatened with violence
Pym Fortyn forced Danish Muslims to admit that Islam requires the death penalty for gays, he was killed.
Theo Van Gogh forced Danish Muslims to confront that the Koran authorizes wife beating, he was killed

None of these people have been violent. None.I have not been violent, I am advocating speaking out. I am advocating resisting the notion that Muslims have a special right not available to others, to be free of criticism and ridicule. At what point DO we speak out. When it is PRUDENT to speak out?

The American people need to know what is going on in Europe. They need to know what the consequences of inviting Muslims into your country is. On FOX, the leader of the Danish imams who traveled around the Islamic world fomenting hatred of Denmark directly told the journalist that “the rules have to change.” By this he meant that Islam MUST BE PRIVILEGED above all else.

  26. NOte 26 Inequality

Inequality is natural, Jim. People are born with differing abilities. Haven’t you noticed?

In case you hadn’t noticed, not only do people differ in their natural abilities, but, they differ widely in their motivation, discipline and willingness to work. I personally know of a family where the same parents (good people both of them) raised a eye surgeon and a chronic drug user. One brother is a total bum despite his high I.Q. and the other is a leading eye surgeon. Both had a good upbringing by two people who worked hard to be good parents. The parents weren’t perfect but they did their best to be loving and supportive. They didn’t use violence to discipline their children and they were not drug abusers or criminals. Both were dedicated to being the best parent they could be. They succeeded with one child and, I guess, didn’t succeed with the other. No, Jim, we will always have inequality of outcome.

I have frequently stated my support for our Constitutoin and for political equality. I support efforts to ensure equality of economic opportunity. There is greater economic opportunity in America than anywhere in the world. It won’t be possible to achieve perfect equality of economic opportunity in this Earth, we cannot create Heaven on earth. Leftists go beyond supporting equality of opportunity as a goal, and insist on equality of outcome as a policy. One cannot achieve equality of outcome without injustice and loss of freedom.

You might want to remember Russia, Jim. A worker’s paradise, beloved of the intellectuals, see the essay Fr. Jacobse just posted. Being a Leftist means never having to admit that your policies were MASSIVE FAILURES and brought poverty and tyranny to everyone touched by them. Remember why the Berlin Wall was built Jim, to keep people inside Communist countries. They couldn’t wait to get out. No one is dying to get out of America, Jim. Isn’t it amazing that so many people want to live here?

Leftist seek to impost an oppressive and iron-clad equality of everything, in doing so, they gather all power into their own hands and suppress the freedom of everyone else. Price fixing doesn’t work, unions fix the price of wages and they drive jobs away from the jurisdiction. Look at the states that are LOSING JOBS and LOSING POPULATION: Massachusetts and Michigan. Long time Democratic union strongholds. Their economies are failing. Look at the school systems run by Democrats in the inner cities, everyone is fleeing from them.
Look at the welfare system which resulted in a boost of illegitimacy from less than 4% in the black community to more thn 66%. Thanks to the Leftist enlightened insistence on legal abortion more than 1 out of every 3 black babies is aborted. GREAT RESULTS FOR THOSE POLICIES JIM.

Everyone is moving away from California as it’s liviability is being destroyed by overpopulation. The overpopulation comes from illegal immigrants. Populations are moving to low tax states, which also happen to be high employment states. In Nevada it is possible to get a job, keep most of your income and buy a reasonable priced house. Try that in Massachusetts. Can’t be done.

  27. Dean, no flock poaching!!

Dean, congratulations on your ascension to the clergy. Didn’t know you had been studying for that. As to the Bible reference, aren’t you poaching someone else’s flock? Are there some intra-clergy courtesy rules on this? Tsk, tsk!!

  28. The Bush administration doesn’t want to admit that it used its warrantless searches not to spy on Al Qaeda, but on ordinary Americans whose politics they don’t approve of.

“F.B.I. Watched Activist Groups, New Files Show”, NY Times December 20, 2006

“WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 – Counterterrorism agents at the Federal Bureau of Investigation have conducted numerous surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations that involved, at least indirectly, groups active in causes as diverse as the environment, animal cruelty and poverty relief, newly disclosed agency records show.

…One F.B.I. document indicates that agents in Indianapolis planned to conduct surveillance as part of a “Vegan Community Project.” Another document talks of the Catholic Workers group’s “semi-communistic ideology.” A third indicates the bureau’s interest in determining the location of a protest over llama fur planned by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/20/politics/20fbi.html?ex=1292734800&en=d2129bfa7b4b8554&ei=5088

Well you have to watch out for those Vegans and animal cruelty activists; they hate us for our freedom, our meat-eating, fur-wearing freedom.

  29. Venona Files document Communist Infiltration

The Venone Files document the truth that Communists infiltrated and subverted leftist organizations, including many on the cultural left as through the 1930’s, 1040’s and 1950’s. I.F. Stone was an actual Russian agent. You may remember that it was COMMUNIST nations that had thousands of war heads pointed at our country and who engaged in proxy wars against us. As Krushcheve said “We will bury you.” He wasn’t kidding.
Just as Mohammed wasn’t kidding when he said “Islam will dominate and will not be dominated.”

Russia still has spies, as do the Communist Chinese and others. We have every right to protect ourselves against espionage. The Chinese have been engaged in some very substantial theft of sensitive technology.
North Korea, Viet Nam and China are remaining Communist powers which we have every reason to believe are active in attempting espionage in the United States. The organs of the cultural Left are consistently socialistic and communistic and few bother to hide their ideology. An ideology which is now, and has always been, hostile to the United States.

A member of our Senate are showcased in the North Vietnamese Museum in Hanoi in gratitude for his work in demonizing the American servicemen and demoralizing the United States. Senator Kerry undoubtedly has the picture on the wall of his Senate office.

  30. Note 24. Missourian writes:

People who are pushing “multi-culturalism” have to answer how a thought system which does not allow free speech is to be integrated into a system which does. You cannot square the circle and this episode has revealed the truth the West needs to see. This is the same phenomenon which occurred with the deaths of Pym Fortyn and Theo Van Gogh, the Left did nothing and betrayed free speech.

The Left has been undermining the intellectual traditions of Western culture thereby sapping its moral resolve for a generation. Note, for example, how the Nation magazine (emblematic of Leftist thought) always found itself on the side of tyranny — Hitler, Stalin, all the great secular saviors of humanity.

Solzhenitsyn warned the West of this in his fight against Communism. It holds true for Islamic militantism as well.

  31. Matyrs of the Left Turn Out to be Traitors

For decades, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were revered as matyrs on the Left. The Left told us that these people were in fact, only, mild-mannered, academic theorists. People who merely used their first amendment right to advocate a peaceful change to communism in the United States. For decades their adult son, a Mr. Meerpool, dedicated his life to their memories and the perpetual of the claim that they were innocent matyrs of a unrestrained American government.

The Venona Project papers make claer that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg passed on atomic bomb secrets to an active enemy of the United States. These innocent academic matyrs ACTIVELY ASSISTED A COUNTRY BENT ON DESTROYING AMERICA. Remember Krushchev and “we will bury you!” Yes, that country. Think about this, they hated their country so much that they would give the ATOMIC BOMB to Russia, an country hostile to America. They were traitors from the beginning. Not heroes. Now evern Meerpool has given up his defense of his parents.

Again, being a Lefist means never having to say you are sorry. Leftists attacked responsible government officials for decades and excoriated them as tyrants becuase they protected our country. Thank goodness they did protect our country.

All the while the Left whined and wailed that they were persecuted martyrs.

  32. I don’t see why there are so many protests and riots. I mean @#%*! The newspaper and artist have apologised for publishing the cartoon so what else can they do? The Muslims are in the wrong here, yes the cartoons shouldn’t have been shown but they have over-reacted. So what do they want done about it? Do they know themselves? I think not…

  33. Suppression of Free Speech the work of tuxedoed Ambassadors not just the violent

Remember gentlepeople, the reaction against the Danish cartoons is not confined to so-called crazies. It includes ambassadors from Muslim countries that insisted to the Danish prime minister that he use his political power to suppress the free speech of Danes.

This action was not violent but it clearly demonstrated the position of Islam, that is, that Islam is ALWAYS AND EVERYWHERE PRIVILEGED as no other thought system is. These ambassadors were not the”violent few.” They are and were the offical representatives of Islamic countries. Educated and well-versed in Islamic and Western culture.

  34. PETA has been implicated in violent acts

Dean, you might want to update your information. Animal rights activists are more than grandmothers working at humane shelters. They now constitute active terrorists. PETA has been involved in some demonstrations that have been near violent and there is reason to believe that PETA overlaps with avowedly violent animal rights groups.

In the U.K. the homes of medical researchers have been attacked as have medical labs. The attacks were violent and very damaging. Not a matter for joking at all. There is a very reasonable chance that some individual members of PETA may be involved in violent acts.

I would like to remind you that the United STates HAS EVERY RIGHT to wiretap an individual who is suspected of criminal activity. The Fourth Amendment outlaws only unreasonable searches. Many warrantless searches are ruled reasonable by the Courts. There is no law which blocks effective law enforcement. Criminals are not entitled to be free from effective law enforcement techniques.

I would also like to remind you that Bobby Kennedy’s effective war against the Mafia was conducted nearly always with wiretaps. It was the wiretapes that produced the convictions. At the time Italian Americans were complaining about harassment, but, the Mafia was real and Bobby Kennedy proved that with his wiretaps.

  35. Apologizing for the Violent and slandering the Virtuous

Dean called Justice Alito every name in the book. This fine man, who has lead an explemary Christian life by every known measure, was called a racist and a fascist by Dean. Every time Dean tried to bring up a specific case that Alito supposedly decided wrongly I was able to show that Dean’s description of that case was skewed and misinformed. Still Dean would go back to the NYT and dredge up some more baseless generalizations.

This is the outcome of Leftist intoxication. The Left attacks the virtuous, the law abiding, the productive, the honest. It demonizes those who spend less than they earn and save, it calls them the “propertied rich.” It demonizes those who call for personal virtue and responsibility as “judgmental.” and excuses libertines who bring illegitimate children into the world. It exalts the criminal (Tookie Willians), the traitor (Julius and Ethel Rosenberg), the totalitarian (Muslims). Essentially the Left is an enemy of American society, the family and the Judaeo-Christian tradition, but, above all freedom.

Islam will make you a slave of Allah, but belief in Christ will “set you free.” There is no common set of values between these two traditions.

  36. What Media Bias

The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced Friday that the unemployment rate for January fell by 0.2 percent from December, down to 4.7 percent, the lowest level since July of 2001. But viewers of ABC’s World News Tonight and CBS Evening News on Friday night heard nothing about it. Citation: http://www.mrc.org/cyberalerts/2006/cyb20060206.asp#1 This site contains a direct reference to the relevant government statistics, which, I am sure, Dean, will argue are irrelevant, even though the unemployment rate has long been considered to be a primary measure of the health of an economy.

Had this happened during the Clinton administration, officials from Treasury of the White House would have been interviewed about the accomplishment. Clearly Bush’s tax cuts have had time to work and produced the predictable results. Actually everybody knows that lowering taxes frees up funds which businesses use to expand. Today, businesses expand primarily by hiring more workers, which creates a positive economic cycle of higher employment. Higher employment generates more tax revenue.

Note, to socialists, people who WORK generate tax revenues to support people who DON’T WORK through government redistribution. To rephrase, so that the socialists understand, taxes are used by the government to redress the social injustice that PEOPLE WHO WORK have more money (before taxes) than PEOPLE WHO DON’T WORK.

  37. Missourian writes: ‘Inequality is natural, Jim. People are born with differing abilities. Haven’t you noticed?”

Yes I have noticed. I have also noticed that within any political group there is a great amount of diversity, and that over time opinions within that group change.

The problem is that your blanket condemnation in the comment under discussion makes none of these distinctions. “Leftists” — without any further specification — are supposedly guilty of all sorts of things. But the allegations are so vague that the whole piece is either meaningless at best, or misleading at worst.

Here’s how it would work the other way: Christians hate liberty and democracy. They support tyrants. They condemn and torture their opponents. They bilk their followers out of millions of dollars and live lavish lifestyles. They bomb abortion clinics and murder doctors. They want to institute “biblical slavery” and the execution of “heretics.”

Now, all of the things I just mentioned are completely true. Every one of those things has been done by Christians somewhere and some time. But taken as a fair characterization of an entire group, it’s completely wrong.

Your whole piece is filled with such massive generalities so that it is virtually impossible to reply to it. You ask for factual inaccuracies. Ok, here’s one: my friend John is a “leftist” by anyone’s definition. He doesn’t hate “our culture,” doesn’t believe in enforcing equality at any cost, doesn’t believe in laws restricting free speech, didn’t support either the Soviet Union or Hitler. So you’re wrong. “Leftists” don’t do these things. Now if you want to change your statements to “some” leftists, that would be an improvement.

You say that liberals “are attracted to Islam because of its totalitarian and anti-freedom nature.” Again, that’s completely wrong. The fault of liberals in this case, to the extent it is a fault, is that they feel a need to be “tolerant” of other cultures. But that surely is not an “attraction.” Quite the opposite. Actually many American Christians are far more similar to Islamic fundamentalists. So not only do you get the facts wrong, you leave out glaringly obvious facts that are against you.

You say that the “left” supported Hitler, but the right was far more enthusiastic. And American corporations were willing trade partners with Germany. Fundamentalist preachers proclaimed that Nazi oppression was God’s judgment on the Jews.

Concerning your economic analysis — all I can say is that the situation is far more complex than what you portray.

  38. Jim, I gave specific examples.

Jim you know as well as I do that comments about your personal friend does not address the issue. For the “the Left” you may substitute The Nation, the editorial board of the NYT and the ACLU. It is disengenous to act as if everyone in America doesn’t know who leads and speaks for the Left. Hint, it ain’t your little friend John who considers himself a Leftist.

For Communist traitors formerly revered as martyrs I gave you Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, now thoroughly discredited. The volume of literature from the Left supporting these two traitors is overwhelming.

For failed economic policies I listed Michigan and Massachusetts, the two states that lead in job losses.

For traitorous and treasonous Leftist intellectuals that were greatly admired by the Left and the mainstream press, I gave you I.F. Stone, a bona fide Russian agent.

For thorough going Communists who were lionized by the Left leaning press as “original thinkers” I give you Tom Haydyn and his SDS and Port Huron Statement. This incoherent, warmed over Communist Manifesto was lapped up by the MSM at the time. Tom got adoring articles in Time and Newsweek, as the up and coming political thinker of our time. Just another, garden variety Communist.

For the promotion of illegal immigration and the promotion of “open borders” I give you La Raza and Mecha.

For the suppression of free speech and the creation of unconstitutional “hate speech” codes I gave you the Fire website with its thorough documentation of the suppression of free speech on American campuses. See http://www.thefire.org for full documentation.

For out and out aid and comfort to an armed enemy of the United States I give you John F. Kerry. The leading proponent of the lie that our American soldiers part of a systematic command structure that promoted war crimes. Kerry actively supported the victory of the Vietnamese Communists who rule with a iron hand today, suppressing the intellectual freedom of Christians, Buddhists and any non-communists in that people’s paradise. Kerry was a co-author of a book which featured a picture of men in dishelved military uniforms desecrating a flag.

As a member of the military, Kerry understood that members of the Armed Forces revere their formal uniforms and consider ripped or torn formal uniforms to be equivalent to ripped or torn American flags. Knowing this Kerry went to great lengths to express his utter contempt for the American flag and the American military. He is a traitor to the United States. This unabashed and unrepentant traitor to the United States was nominated by the Democratic party. A party who leaders welcome Michael Moore, an open Stalinist and former writer for Mother Jones magazine. Mother Jones is the organ of the radical Left in America.

For traitors to America’s interests and for panderers to dictators, I give you Ted Turner who toured North Korea and somehow didn’t find any concentration camps with starving people WHO wrote articles suggesting that Kim Il Jung was someone who had been demonized. Turner couldn’t even see the total control that North Korea exerts over its citizens. Reports from the few who escape from North Korea are blood curdling. North Korea is under no real military threat, yeat it maintains the third or fourth largest Amry in the world.

For knowing accomplices of Stalin’s Ukrainian famine campaign, I give you Walter Duranty of the NYT, the shill that helped Stalin hide who he really was.

For a utter failure to provide the minimally satisfactory standard of living to its people, I give you the entire Communist world, now a revealed to be an a cross between a very large prison and a slum.

I think it is interesting that The Nation and the New York Times can apologize for and cover up for Communist regimes over decades and yet a Leftist like Jim Holman feels that he does not have to accept responsibility for his political comrades warm embrace of tyrants.

  39. Another Christian Murder by another Misunderstander of Islam Shouting Allu Akbar

Father Santoro was the shepard of a tiny Turkish Christian community that had opened its doors to Muslims. He was killed by Muslim gunman who shouted “allu akbar” the Muslim formulation of “God is Great.” So, like too many others across history, the last words heard by Fr. Santoro were “allu akbar.”

Note to all. The gunmen was only a tiny percentage of the total population of Turkey and just because the gunman shot a Christian priest in cold blood as he screamed the age old Muslim war cry, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with Islam. It also has nothing to do with the slaughter of Hindus, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, the Armenian genocide, the oppression of the Balkan Christians, the 11 million Black Africans enslaved by the Ummayad and Abassid Muslim dynasties, the current oppression of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the conquest of Spain, the acid attacks on non-veiled women in Kashmir, the two beheaded Christian schoolgirls in Indonesia, the knife attack on Mahfoux the author, the death of Theo Van Gogh, the death of Pym Fortuyn, the assault on Vienna, the white slave trade of the Barbary pirates ended by U.S. Marines, the genocide of black Christians and animist in Sudan, the Islamization of Nigeria, the Twin Towers, the London subway, the Madrid subway, the Bali resort attack, the no-go zones in Europe where police and fireman are attacked if they try to enter. Nothing. What. So. Ever. Amyone suggesting these events are connected somehow is a bigot and will be reported to the thought police for processing and re-training.

Last Published Letter of a Murdered Priest

Father Santoro Writes of Vocation to Bridge the West and Mideast

ROME, FEB. 6, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Here is a translation of the last letter published by Father Andrea Santoro, in the magazine Window to the Middle East, which he founded in Italy. The 60-year-old priest was shot and killed Sunday while praying in his parish in Trabzon, Turkey.

    * * *

    Beloved,

I am writing from Rome, where I have spent three weeks before returning to Turkey. They have been very intense days, dedicated to testimonies, meetings, catechesis, conferences, and times of prayer. Everything has been oriented to promote information and knowledge between the Middle East, seen through my personal experience, and our West, in line with the objective of Window to the Middle East.

I have found everywhere interest and participation, a sincere desire to understand and to establish bonds of communion. I have seen the importance and the possibility of undertaking an exchange of spiritual gifts between these two worlds. The Middle East, great “holy land,” where God decided to communicate himself in a special way with man, has its riches and the capacity, thanks to the light that God has always infused, to illuminate our Western world.

But the Middle East has its darkness, its problems, often tragic, and its “voids.” It needs, therefore, in turn that that Gospel that came from there be sowed again and that the presence of Christ be proposed again there. It is a reciprocal “re-evangelization” and an enrichment that the two worlds can exchange.

Meanwhile, in Trabzon, the minute Christian community has met every Sunday morning to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word and the Church has been opened twice a week to Muslims, under the responsibility of a trustworthy person. I will let you know how it goes.

I greet you, commending these reflections to you and exhorting you to always put faith in contact with the present moment. It must not be an abstract and generic faith, but a faith like that of the first “beginnings,” which has been transmitted to us from generation to generation. As the Gospel says, leaven has a mysterious capacity to ferment the dough, if it comes into contact with it — the dough of all times, all places, all generations.

Moreover, Jesus said: “I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness.” If his light illuminates us, not only will it illuminate every situation, even the most tragic, but in addition we too, as He always said, will be light. The tenuous light of a candle illuminates a house, an extinguished lamp leaves everything in darkness. May he shine in us with his Word, with his Spirit, with the sap of his saints. May our life be the wax that is consumed willingly.

    Affectionately,

    Father Andrea

  40. Tragic Events in the History of America and Christianity

Jim will undoubtedly point out there are many sorrowful and tragic events in the history of Christianity and in America. Enough, he will claim to match those of Islam.

    THE DIFFERENCE?

Christian and American history are open books. The public and academic libraries of America are full of books, studies and articles of ALL the painful aspects of American history and Christian history. Americans and Christians are not in denial. Slavery has been abolished in America and civil rights legislation passed. John Quincy Adams, one of America’s most illustrious founders dedicated his life to the abolition of slavery in America. Modern Christians have forged links with Jews and acknowledged and asked forgiveness for persecution of Jews. John Paul II reached out to Muslims. Pope Benedict has encouraged theological discussion with the Orthodox. Differences remain but respectful and peaceful discussions are being held among the parties.

Islam is in denial. Denial of its promotion of slavery, the most extensive slave empire in the history of the world. Denial of its treatment of religious minorities, secularists, women and gays. Denial of the true nature of the man they call perfect and worthy of all emulation. Denial of the fact of the Armenian genocide and so much other violence. Islam is in denial of the causes of its political and and economic backwardness. Denial that Muslims represent 20% of the world’s population and 50% of the world’s illiterates. All denied, all hidden. Islam needs to be exposed to the light. After Islam is an open book, we can talk.

  41. Missourian writes: “Jim you know as well as I do that comments about your personal friend does not address the issue.”

I’m saying that blanket condemnations are either misleading or meaningless, especially of the “they hate our culture” type.

Missourian: “For failed economic policies I listed Michigan and Massachusetts, the two states that lead in job losses.”

Well, sure, you can pick out a couple of state statistics at a point in time, but what does that mean? Kansas is one of the reddest of the red states, and their population growth is below that of the U.S. Massachusetts also has one of the lowest divorce rates. The ten states with the highest rates of teen suicide, fatal accidents, and homicide are red states. The ten states with the lowest rates are blue states. Incomes and educational achievements are generally higher in blue states. So there.

Missourian: “For traitorous and treasonous Leftist intellectuals that were greatly admired by the Left and the mainstream press, I gave you I.F. Stone, a bona fide Russian agent.”

No, you give us bona fide right-wing bull____. I could post links to that effect, but why bother. Stone died in 1989, 17 years ago.

Missourian: “I give you Tom Haydyn and his SDS and Port Huron Statement.”

Let’s see, that was 44 years ago.

Missourian: “For the promotion of illegal immigration and the promotion of ‘open borders’ I give you La Raza and Mecha.”

Wow, off to a different topic now. I actually had to do some research on Mecha, having not heard of it before. But to you it’s all part of the same “leftist” fabric.

Missourian: “For the suppression of free speech and the creation of unconstitutional “hate speech” codes I gave you the Fire website with its thorough documentation of the suppression of free speech on American campuses.”

What you obviously don’t know is that many “liberal” professors don’t like many of the speech codes on campuses. But again, this is all just part of a single, monolithic thing to you. When I was in grad school I was personally critized for having used the generic “he” in a letter to the editor in the school paper. I thought that was stupid then, just as I think it is stupid now.

Missourian: “For out and out aid and comfort to an armed enemy of the United States I give you John F. Kerry.”

I didn’t realize he had been charged with that. You accuse people of these serious crimes, but for some reason they are never charged.

Missourian: “I think it is interesting that The Nation and the New York Times can apologize for and cover up for Communist regimes over decades and yet a Leftist like Jim Holman feels that he does not have to accept responsibility for his political comrades warm embrace of tyrants.”

Is that how it works? Give me a minute, and we’ll examine your comrades.

  42. Lessons in obedience taught us by that “tiny minority” of Muslims

Spare me the “tiny minority” refrain. Huge historical changes have been effected by “tiny minorities.”

The Bolshevik Revolution was instigated by only a few thousand people under the direction of Lenin. His Bolsheviks were on a “tiny minority” of the Russians alive at that time. But, lo, how Russia changed after Lenin’s “tiny minority” came to power. Their ruthlessness swept across Russia enslaving its population for more than 70 years.

Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch didn’t require a great deal of manpower. The force of Hitler’s “tiny minority” was augmented by its utter ruthlessness. But, lo, how Germany changed after Hitler’s “tiny minority” came to power.

I don’t care what “true Islam” is. Maintaining “true Islam” is not my concern. What I care about is what is going to happen to my country and my civilization if the “tiny minority” of Muslims who are waging war against us, have their way. Make no mistake about it, the “vast majority” of Muslims, whom we all know are “moderate” will gleefully take the privileges that the fanatical minority will win for Muslims in the world. The vast “moderate Muslim” population IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE for they are powerless, ineffecttual, voiceless and useless. In the four years since 9/11 they have been totally ineffective to stop their fanatical brethren, for whatever reason. Consequently they are one immense diversionary waste of time, which is probably exactly what they INTEND TO BE. Bemusing the infidel, there is always some well-manicured, Western educated Muslim to show up at the ecumenical meetings and outreach programs. They are there to lull the infidels defense with the hope that this Islamic invasion will be different than all that preceded it.

Are you aware that the California Board of Education allowed a Muslim to write a totally whitewashed version of the history of Islam which openly stated as fact that Islamic sacred literature [sic] was true and Christian and Jewish sacred literature contained errors. All he had to do was walk in the door and California did his bidding. Mohammed was presented as a champion of women’s rights, not a polygamist who compared women to farmer’s fields, and claimed their intellect was deficient. This is the first information that Californai school children of tender age will receive about Islam, most of their parents will never even see the offending text and if they did, they would not be equipped with knowledge from the Koran and the Hadith to correct the gross mistatements.

How many times do you have to get stabbed before you figure out that the person stabbing you is trying to kill you? The cartoon controversy is about imposing Sharia law on everyone, Muslim and non-Muslim.

  43. Why is the state of Calif. teaching Islam in school?
Is there an equivalent Jewish and Christian curriculum also?

  44. Are you a Democrat, Republican or Southern Republican?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

The answer can be found by posing the following question:

You’re walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children.

Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Glock cal .40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.

    What do you do?
    Democrat’s Answer:
a.. Well, that’s not enough information to answer the question!
b.. Does the man look poor or oppressed?
c.. Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
    d.. Could we run away?
e.. What does my wife think?
    f.. What about the kids?
g.. Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
h.. What does the law say about this situation?
i.. Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?
j.. Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
k.. Is it possible he’d be happy with just killing me?
l.. Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
m.. And hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
    n.. Should I call 9-1-1?
o.. Why is this street so deserted?
p.. We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
q.. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus.

    Republican’s Answer:
    BANG!

    Southern Republican’s Answer:
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!….Click
    (sounds of reloading)
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!….Click

Daughter: “Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips or Hollow Points?

Son: “Git-r-Dun, Pop! Can I shoot the next one?”

Wife: “You ain’t taking that thing to the Taxidermist!”

  45. Jim Holman, Speech Codes: Unclear on the Concept:Impervious to Facts

The FIRE website is a comprehensive source of information on the state of intellectual inquiry on American campuses. It fully documents the existence of these codes on campus after campus after campus. It also fully documents that 98% of all enforcement of these codes has served to SUPPRESS conservative critiques of Leftist political ideology. FIRE has been uniformly successful in all of it Court challenges to these codes, yet, despite this, I am not aware of one University administration which has voluntarily abandoned the codes with pressure from FIRE or the outside.

The idea that you can supposedly find one “liberal” professor who opposes these codes is irrelevant when FIRE has clearly documented that those codes exist on dozens and dozens of large and prominent campuses in America. The single liberal professor friend hasn’t had much of an effect on the reality of life on today’s campuses. His existence does nothing to refute my factual reference or my logical arguments. The LEFT is undeniably the source of the greatest domestic assault on free speech in America today.

At my local state University, the most recent Chancellor announced with pride that no only would the school adopt a “diversity” policy but that she would assign an entire full time position to ENFORCING that “diversity” policy. This decision was made after some students in the law school argued with a speaker promoting open borders. The mere fact that law students argued against an “open border” position was enough to cause this academic administrator to add some firepower to her nearly flawless control of thought on campus. The actual debate centered on classical legal issues and did not refer to anyone’s ethnicity but this administrator had already decided that anyone esposing enforcement of our border laws was a “racist.” Nice huh? I love the fact that I am supporting this woman with my tax dollars.
